2005 THE VARIETY SHOW
EXHIBITION IMAGES
Nothing is pleasant that is not spiced with variety. Francis Bacon
Assembled here is a collection of works by Australian artists presenting a wide variety of ideas, styles and techniques. The link is that these artists push the boundaries set by their predecessors in an attempt to find a new connection with the audience. Consequently, they are widely regarded as leaders of Australian art today. We do not represent the majority of these artists, but admire and respect them enormously.
They are an impressive bunch. Among them are Samstag scholarship winners, such as Anne Wallace; Venice Biennale representatives, such as Howard Arkley and Patricia Piccinini; artists who have an international presence such as Tim Maguire and Sydney Ball (who’s work is hanging in New York’s Museum of Modern Art); and artists who have been honoured with major monographs and extensive retrospective exhibitions, such as William Robinson and Peter Booth. Fred Williams, Brett Whiteley and Howard Arkley live on through their extraordinary contributions, revolutionizing the way that we think about art in this country.
We hope you enjoy the show.
